TRAFOLO Magnetics

3D FEM simulation for transformers, chokes and inductors.

Validate your design against specification, eliminate critical errors before the first physical prototype is built, and get insight into the losses, fields and temperatures inside the materials — not just at the terminals.

Why simulate

Physical prototypes are the most expensive way to learn.

Analytic and empirical estimates fall short for high-frequency designs, where losses depend on geometry, temperature and material non-linearity at the same time. Numerical modelling closes that gap.

  • Shorten the development cycle. Run parametric studies in parallel on high-performance hardware instead of sequentially on the bench.
  • Cut wasteful prototyping. Once the numerical model is verified, reuse it for every succeeding revision.
  • Test risky ideas cheaply. Unconventional winding arrangements and core geometries cost a solve, not a tooling run.
  • Predict quality issues early. See stresses and temperatures inside the materials non-destructively, during the design phase.
  • Certify with evidence. Verified results in a short timeframe, documented for design reviews and customer sign-off.
  • Keep your data in-house. Everything runs on-premises — your geometry and results never leave your machines.
Numerical models

Everything the physics of a magnetic component demands.

  • Geometry. Import CAD or DXF — 2D profiles extend to 3D — or use parametrised geometries for the most common core and winding types.
  • Core loss. Steinmetz and Generalized Steinmetz Equations.
  • Winding loss. Including homogenisation for litz bundles.
  • Materials. Laminated electrical steel, ferrite, powder and soft magnetic composite cores, with B-H hysteresis and temperature-dependent conductivity.
  • Solution type. Transient or harmonic, selected per case to trade runtime against accuracy.
  • Extraction. Capacitance, inductance and AC resistance matrices for circuit-level models.
Application gallery

Fifteen cases you can open as a template.

Every case ships as a parametrised template — change the dimensions, materials and excitation, and run it on your own design.
